"What am I in the eyes of most people ¬ a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person ¬ somebody who has no position in society and never will have, in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then ¬ even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart." -Vincent Van Gogh
Quote #52 - Harms Way
Some years ago I framed this quote, and I think it kinda stunned the person I was debating with who was invested in making the typical quote "people don’t go to work to hurt themselves". I have since seen this quotes used by those people, but dared not mention where it came from!
While it is nice and humbling to assume workers don't choose to harm themselves, they often do choose to make way for harm to happen, so they choose 'unsafety'.
